As one of the region’s leading developers over the past decades, Donald Monti, President and CEO of Renaissance Downtowns, was invited by the City of Glen Cove to work with them in an effort to transform a dilapidated and polluted waterfront into a burgeoning neighborhood that would contribute to the Glen Cove economy & tax base.
Initially, Monti looked at this redevelopment opportunity through the lens of an accomplished suburban developer. He saw an opportunity to create a beautiful gated, waterfront community. After speaking with potential planning and architectural firms, however, a light bulb lit within Monti’s mind. Suddenly, a long-time champion of suburban development saw the entire world in a new way, as he recognized the need to provide public access to the waterfront, while creating a vibrant, mixed-use environment that all residents of Glen Cove could enjoy, regardless of where they lived.
It was this moment, in Glen Cove, NY, where Don became a self proclaimed “recovered developer.” It was this self-transformation that provided the genesis of a company that would no longer build suburban sprawl, but rather dedicate itself to responsible, triple-bottom-line development. That was the moment when Renaissance began to take hold, leading the the successes that the Renaissance Team has achieved through this day.
While Renaissance is still involved in the project, now called Garvies Point, this large-scale redevelopment is now being lead by the New York based real estate firm, RXR Realty. Don recently helped crack the dirt at the scenic site, where construction on 1,100 apartments and condominiums will commence in early 2017.
