Newsday, July 12th, 2012 | Renaissance Downtowns Huntington Station, the master developer hired by the town last summer to revitalize the area, plans to officially open its offices on Wednesday. Residents can come in and speak to representatives about redevelopment plans for the New York Avenue corridor.
The office, at 1266 New York Ave., north of Depot Road, will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as some night and Saturday hours.
While the revitalization plan will be driven by residents’ desires for a roughly half-mile stretch of New York Avenue from Olive Street to just south of the Long Island Rail Road’s Huntington Station, Renaissance officials said there is an idea of what is needed.
“We really need to focus on building the commercial base,” said Brandon Palanker, vice president of marketing and public affairs for the Plainview-based firm. “And creating a neighborhood fabric that is walkable, that is green building, and that is something people are proud to live in or live around, and happy to visit.”
The company has a month-to-month lease for the 650-square-foot town-owned space with a rent of $866.67 a month.
“This will be an open, inclusionary and transparent process,” Palanker said of the project. “We want the community to work with us.”
The grand opening ribbon-cutting is planned for 4 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a celebration at Station Sports Family Fun Center on Depot Road, Renaissance officials said.
Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone, town board members and members of the Huntington Station community are expected to join with Don Monti, president and chief executive of Renaissance Downtowns.
